Our Treatment Foster Care Program is part of Coalition for Hispanic Family Services, which serves children and families who reside in the borough of Brooklyn.  It is the overall goal of the organization to empower the children and families of the community by moving them towards self-sufficiency and helping them maintain a strong cultural identity.

“The professional help we provide helps children and their families develop new ways of coping with their problems in an environment that is familiar and has the necessary ingredients for optional emotional growth.

PHILOSOPHY

Children with severe emotional disturbance very often are removed from their environments and placed in psychiatric hospitals or residential facilities.

Treatment Foster Care combines home care and therapeutic support that creates opportunities for teaching, learning and treatment in a nurturing family environment.  It offers children with emotional difficulties an opportunity to live in a therapeutic family setting.  The children maintain connections with their birth families with the goal of family reunification, and/or an alternative permanency plan is developed. The ultimate goal of the program is the prevention of institutionalization and provision of permanency for the child.

THE PROGRAM

Our Treatment Foster Care Program  services are provided to children between the ages of 12-17 who are emotionally disturbed, exhibit behavioral problems and those assessed for a higher level of care than regular foster care.

Treatment Foster Care allows children who cannot remain with their birth family an opportunity to work on their difficulties in a therapeutic family setting.

Children are placed with trained Teaching Parents, who along with a staff Sociotherapist, Family Counselor, develop a home atmosphere of warmth, nurturance, acceptance, as well as consistency and structure.

Combined with individualized placement in a therapeutic home environment there is ongoing contact between the child, birth family, school, and other neighborhood systems which impact on the child’s life.
