Child Abuse Prevention and Family Treatment and Rehabilitation Services

Funded by the New York City Administration for Children's Services, Preventive Family Support Services began offering family services in July of 2011. It offers both general support services and rehabilitative support services to families.

 

Preventive Family Support Services is a free counseling, support and referral assistance program for families in crisis. It seeks to strengthen families in the midst of family crisis by connecting them to community based services while providing general counseling and support throughout their involvement with the program.

 

Preventive Family Support Services offer:

 

  • A dedicated Family Case Planner
  • Help, support and counseling during family crisis 
  • Individual/family counseling
  • Mother/infant groups
  • Help in meeting your child’s developmental needs
  • Domestic Violence counseling
  • Information on community services you may be eligible for
  • Referral assistance to access a variety of programs such as public assistance and other benefits, education/vocational services, prenatal assistance, child care and Head Start programs
  • Assistance in getting mental health services and/or substance abuse services

 

Preventive Family Support Services offers services in the communities of Bushwick, Brooklyn, and the Ridgewood, Maspeth Queens communities. To be eligible, families must . . .

  • have children from birth to 21 years old
  • be pregnant, or be a family in which someone needs help with substance abuse and/or mental issues, or
  • be a family at risk of having a child placed in foster care

Referrals are accepted from City agencies, ACS, NYCHA and DHS. Local community providers; day cares, schools, or mental health providers, to name a few, can also make referrals by phone. Family walk-ins are also accepted.
